SkySafari 5 Pro App Reviews

Nice app but I wish I could turn off the differential angle mode.

Or whatever its called. It gives the angle away from the selected object. My only problem so far is sometimes sky safari pro 5 will not let me select another object by touch, so I have to go to search. It get locked on the object sometimes and wont let go via touch. Im using an iPad 3 mini. Maybe theres a trick or way to easily deselect an object. Ill have to study and read up more on that. Its about the only bug Ive noticed. Im using this with an evolution mount and enjoy the features with the Celestron evolution mount. A pretty nice combination.

Apple Watch App Problem

The program works great on my on my iPhone, but the Apple Watch app does not update correctly. At 12:37 PM today it gave the altitude of the sun as 62° below the horizon when it should be 27° above the horizon. It should update the position every time you access the Apple Watch app. This problem occurs for all the other objects as well.

Best astro app hands down

I have this app loaded on all my mobile devices. I use it to plan observing sessions, imaging sessions, and when Im out in the field. Have not used to control my scope, more out of preference to utilize my scopes gear. Wont leave home without it.

Best iOS Astronomy App by Far

Ive been using this app along with the SkyFi or the SkyWire accessory to control my C8 SCT for over 2 years. At the Okie-Tex Star Party for the last two years Ive seen more deep-sky wonders than in my whole amateur "career". The app lets me easily see whats visible at any date of interest. This comes in handy for planning observing sessions in advance. I heartily recommend SkySafari to all astronomers! ~Don

Outstanding app and version

Essential to those interested in astronomy.

SkySafari just gets better

I continue to upgrade when the new versions are released. The info in the app is huge and relevant. The sky views and planet pix, etc. are beautiful. Keep up the good work!

Very good program. Unfortunately I do not know enough about astronomy to understand it all but I am learning. And I have a problem. When I receive a notice of an event the program will not open when I select the notice.

Beat Astronomy App Out There

I have tried a number of astronomy apps and this is by far the most suitable one for serious amateur astronomers.

Great just got even Greater!

Ive had Sky Safari Pro for years, and Ive been impressed with its features and simple to use interface. If you are a novice or a seasoned star gazer you will find this app fun and enjoyable to help you identify stars, planets and constellations at night using your iPhone or iPad at night. Just playing with the time function gives you a tremendous insight on how the stars move through the heavens when viewed on Earth, and with the "orbit" feature you can see what the sky would look like from any of the other planets or even other stars in the sky! Ive had many hours of fun just learning how to use this powerful tool. Its by far the BEST app for star gazing on the App Store!

Great App

I use this app all the time. It a well designed planetarium app.

Great must have app

Provides unbelievable amount of information and well organized. Anyone that wants to understand the cosmos would have this resource.

Best app

Best app for astronomy. Dont need to say anymore. Deep space object tracking over +10,000 celestial objects.

The only planetarium program you need

This version has more features than any other app. The human interface is well thought out and easy to use.

This is like someone listened and made it happen!

I have been an avid amateur astronomy buff for many decades and I have seen lots of different approaches to making astronomical information available for our favorite pastime. This software is awesomely good! I find it intuitive, flexible, accurate... Great stuff!

Sky tour

as an amature person , i really love this app .

Very happy with this app.

This app is very helpful and the improvements to the display equipment are terrific.

A Starry-Eyed Pro

There are several great astronomy apps for the iPad. There are a lot of utter useless junk. SkySafari Pro 5 is the top of the heap. I bought it when it was half-price for $19.99. I would have eventually paid the full $40. I have StarryNight Pro on my PC, which cost an arm and half a leg. Its great. But SkySafari Pro 5 is a strong, STRONG challenger to SNP for a pittance of the price. It is beautiful to look at. It is accurate and up to date. It shows the surface of Pluto as newly revealed by New Horizons (which StarryNight Pro has yet to do). It provides extensive information on any object you wish to click on. The info and photos of Saturn, for instance, are excellent. Whereas dear old SNP wants more money in order to control your scope, SkySafari Pro 5 gives it to you at no additional cost. So far, I have NO complaints about this app. For an amateur astronomer or just someone interested, SkySafari Pro 5 is the way to go! (P.S. StarryNight Pro 7 & SkySafari Pro 5 both come from Simulation Curriculum. Sorry for dissing SNP for SFP!)

Most complete astronomy app

Sky safari pro 5 is even more capable than the previous version. It is my go-to Sky app. I use many astronomy apps in developing local planetarium shows, but the first one I turn to, and the one that I use most is this one. Amazing set of capabilities rolled into one app. The interface allow you to get a quick and simple overview of what you are seeing in the sky, while turning to the layers of advanced options allow someone with more experience to truly explore the heavens.

This app is required if you are an astronomy hobbyist

If you are looking for the best astronomy app, this is it. It isnt free but it is worth every penny. I hardly even use my Uranometria atlas any more. Sky Safari is quicker and easier, both at home and in the field, for all but the trickiest star hops.

First Time User Experience

I have been using this app for about a week now (approximately 1-1.5 hours a day) to see what features it came with and only one word comes to mind: YES! Because, I have finally found the ultimate amateur astronomers app. Theres not a single negative thing about this app, Im using an iPad 2, so its a little laggy (as expected) but no where near as laggy as some other huge apps I have used. Theres an endless stream of objects to explore and find information about. (All offline!) I personally found the list of asteroids and comets unlike anything I have seen. The lists of objects are limitless. Really! It would take you thousands of nights just to see through a fraction of whats listed. One experience you get while using the zoom feature while "star gazing" is you find yourself finding more and more stars and deep sky objects the further you zoom in, its awesome! Plus I found myself searching objects I was most interested in, other than being limited with just a hand full of galaxies like other apps. Thumbs up to the developers for an exceptional visual & virtual astronomy experience! Its endless fun!
